Summary

Last week we heard Gary Witherall talk about how God called him and his wife, Bonnie, to serve evangelizing Muslims in the Middle East. In this second part of our conversation, Gary describes the day his wife, Bonnie, was martyred in the clinic where she served Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Gary talks about hearing God’s voice in that time of grief, and making a conscious choice to forgive his wife’s killers, something he says today is “the greatest gift I’ve ever given anybody.” You’ll also hear about how God has brought fruit from Gary and Bonnie’s sacrifice, and how God is still using Gary today to share His love around the world as he continues to serve with Operation Mobilization. 0:04.8	Her husband Gary told us about her.
0:07.6	One day it was raining in Chicago, it's one of my good memories.
0:11.2	She ran out into the middle of the street and started dancing. She was wearing a black dress, very beautiful and it was a fun moment and I said, what are you doing? She was like, I'm just happy, I'm celebrating life, you know?
0:23.8	And while she believed in savoring every moment of life,
0:27.6	she was also prepared to devote her life
0:30.2	to answering God's call.
0:32.4	We entered into marriage already focused on giving our lives for the gospel.
0:39.0	Gary and Bonnie moved to Lebanon where Bonnie served as a nurse among Palestinian refugees.
0:47.0	They were there on September 11th 2001 and they stayed among the people they loved in Lebanon.
0:54.0	Even as things in that region of the world got more and more complicated
0:59.0	with wars in Iraq and Afghanistan heating up.
1:03.0	When Gary and Bonnie decided to stay,
1:06.0	they were consciously choosing to lay down their lives.
1:10.0	And I think we were martyred on that day.
1:13.0	Eventually, Bonnie Witherall literally did give her life for the sake of the gospel.
1:20.0	Jesus never promised his followers an easy path.
1:23.5	In fact, he told his disciples that the world would hate them.
1:27.0	He sent them out as sheep among wolves.
1:30.0	Jesus' words came true in the life of the Apostles,
1:33.0	and they're still coming true today
1:35.0	in the lives of his followers around the world.
