Unfictional is part of KCRW's Independent Producer Project, kind of a laboratory for independent radio producers,

writers and performers.

And today on the program, two stories from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Out Front Series, which ran on the CBC until 2009.

It was a 15 minute program of beautifully told personal stories, and I mean really personal. I think one of the hallmarks of these out front stories is that they're so intimate,

you're not sure if it's appropriate for you to even be listening.

This first story was written by a mother who originally created this radio piece

to explain to other kids why her daughter Cayley is different.

The answer is simply because she's from a different planet.

On Planet Cayley, they celebrate birthdays every single day. On Planet Cayley you're required to splash and puddles, paint

with your fingers and put your toes in mud at least once a month regardless of
