I'm sitting in one of my favourite spots in the whole world next to the River Dee.

It's a spot that I've spent many an hour contemplating life

since I was a young child really,

because it's quite close to where I grew up and where I live now.

At the moment, being entertained by a small flock of

swallows who are bouncing above the water playfully. I've always felt very connected to this river.

It's been a feature of my life. But I felt even more connected to it after I first came

across Nan Shepherds, the Living Mountain.

She writes about the water courses of the Kerngorms in great detail,

and the river, the Dee, which actually flows past her house further downstream in cults.

And since then, whenever I've looked at the river,

I've always felt even more connected to those mountains that I love too,
