Thanks for downloading this edition of assignment. I'm Tim Hewell and in this program I spend a lot of time going round the Netherlands

knocking on strangers doors, but I'm not in the Holland of windmills or beautiful old gabled houses. It's a rather

plainer country that I'm visiting, places that tourists rarely see, inhabited by

people called Henk and Ingrid. And along the way there are some real surprises.

Is he here?

Oh so he is. I can just see him in the crowd now.

Trademark swept back silver hair

above the people completely surrounded by cameras

and they say he's chosen to start his campaign here

because this is one of the very few places in Holland where he actually feels safe.

He's a man who hasn't lived in his own home for 12 years because he's under death threats,

but here he feels is among his own people.

I'm Tim Huell and for assignment on the BBC World Service I'm trying to shoulder my way

into the melee surrounding Dutch politician Kayettevilders.

He's one of the most successful and many would say extreme populist leaders in Europe.

And today, ahead of elections here in the Netherlands, he's brought his stridently anti-immigration,

anti-Islamic campaign to the drab satellite town of Spi canissa south of Rotterdam.
