In this edition of Scotland Outdoors, I head across to the Ard Gower Peninsula to meet writer Neil Ansel.

Neil is a keen birdwatcher and naturalist, but he's also experienced progressive hearing loss throughout his life.

In recent years after moving to the Highlands, he decided to go on a mission to try and hear a wish list of birds and other animals before it became too late, not only for him, but for them as well, because many of them are in grave danger of extinction. He charts his journey throughout the UK in his excellent book, The Edge of Silence.

I met up with Neil on a very wet autumnal day and he took me up a glen which has become familiar to him.

In between the puddles, we discuss birds, their remarkable calls and his personal journey with hearing loss.
