Listener discretion is advised. Several months ago, Stoney and I sat down and had a very candid discussion about the Durham

Triple Homicide in Boone, North Carolina, back in February of 1972, a case that was finally closed 50 years later, almost to the day.

The horrific murders were attributed to Dixie Mafia members Billy Sunday Bert, Billy Wayne Davis, Bobby

Jean Gatiss, and Charles David Reed.

Stoney has maintained that his father was not involved in that crime, although his reasoning was rather dark itself.

Billy Bert's alibi, he was allegedly committing another murder in Georgia at the time, that

of Charles Martin, whose death is still officially an open investigation.

In the previous episode, I talked with Jackson County, Georgia Sheriff Janice Mangum about the Martin

case.

Stoney's hope was that if the sheriff closed the case as a homicide committed by Billy Burt,

then the Durham case could not be closed,

as Bert would physically have been unable to have participated in two murders in the same time

frame taking place over five hours away from one another.
