In this podcast, Dr. Berg explains the real problem why a person who is in deep ketosis and are tested positive in ketones but still no weight loss.  Ketosis is shifting glucose metabolism into ketones and the amount of ketone you’re burning is about 40% and the rest are fatty acids. Insulin resistance is the root cause for slowing the metabolism and stubborn weight loss. It was created by two things;

1. Amount of insulin that is been stimulated through the diet.

2. Time this occurred – exposure of insulin in a period of time.

Causes of No or Slow Weight Loss

1. Eating TOO much fat

2. Slow metabolism

3. Severe Insulin Resistance – it takes a lot of time.

The person's in deep ketosis, they're testing positive for ketones, but no weight loss. Okay, how can that be?

0:56.5

I thought testing positive for ketosis means you're losing weight, right? So if you think

1:01.6

about what's happening when you're in ketosis, you're actually shifting from glucose metabolism to ketones.

1:11.0

The amount of ketones that you're burning is about 40%, the rest is fatty acids.

1:19.3

Okay, so you're actually burning more fatty acids than ketones.

1:22.6

1:25.4

is insulin resistance.

1:27.1

And that is the main thing that has slowed your metabolism

through your diet,

1:50.0

through eating carbs and frequency of eating and all the snacks and the time this occurred so it's the amount of insulin and it's the exposure of that

1:55.0

insulin over a period of time. And what's amazing to me is the amount of sugar

1:59.4

that someone consumes in a daily basis. It's actually in America it's 31 teaspoons. Okay, that's a lot of sugar, right? That's a large amount of sugar and people have done this their entire life. In fact, let me ask you a question. How long have you been

2:16.9

consuming carbs before you started a ketogenic plant? And if you're new to this, you can just basically tell me how many years

2:24.4

you've been eating carbs for. Okay? When I ask that question to people, it's basically their whole lives.

2:30.0

40, 50 years of carb duration of exposure to insulin.
