On the 19th of June 2019 Robbie failed a drugs test in France, but he has always maintained his innocence. He submitted several drug tests to prove his innocence, but the French authorities upheld his ban. To his shock the British authorities followed suit in an action described by the Professional Jockeys Association chief executive Paul Struthers as a really dark day for the BHA.
