Here we revisit the stories of lives cut short,

cases that once sat forgotten, collecting dust,

until a breakthrough forced them back into the light.

It was late February, 1957. In Foxchase neighborhood of northeast Philadelphia,

a teenager took a walk through the woods off Susquehanna Road.

It was quiet and cold as he walked through the foliage.

But then something unexpected brushed his leg,

the flap of a cardboard box.

His curiosity peaked, the boy opened the box to find the dead body of a child, naked,

beaten, and wrapped in a blanket.

The case would come to be known across the country simply as the boy in the box.

The police were called to the scene and an investigation began.

In their report, they noted the body was severely malnourished and had multiple bruises,

but the victim had also been groomed.

Both his hair and nails had recently been trimmed.

Police took fingerprints and ran a massive publicity campaign, flyers widespread news coverage,
