Hey listeners. A lot of people don't know this, but 20,000 Hertz was created because of a contest.

0:06.1

I had this idea for a podcast about sound for years. And then in 2016, the podcast network

0:12.0

Radiotopia announced something called PodQuest. It was an open call for people to submit trailers

0:17.3

for a story-driven podcast that they'd like to make. The winner would get to join

0:21.5

Radiotopia and make that show. Having that deadline motivated me to actually start 20,000 Hertz.

0:27.7

And while we didn't win PodQuest, I'm so thankful that it happened, because this show might not

0:32.7

even exist without it. Now, as a small indie team, we're not nearly as big as Radiotopia, but we do have a

0:39.3

sizable audience of thoughtful, passionate people. I know for a fact that we have some of the

0:43.5

greatest sound artists and storytellers on earth that listen to this podcast. And just like what

0:48.8

podcast did for me, I want to motivate you all to bring a story to life. That's why we're announcing

0:53.8

a special competition, which we're calling Soundoff. It's you all to bring a story to life. That's why we're announcing a special

0:54.4

competition, which we're calling Sound Off. It's your chance to craft a mini 20,000 Hertz episode

0:59.9

that'll be heard by over 100,000 people here on this feed. Specifically, we're looking

1:04.9

for fully produced stories that are roughly two to five minutes long and relate to sound

1:09.4

in one way or another. It can include anything, music, an interview, sound design, but it does need to be clean

1:15.7

and appropriate for all ages.

1:17.6

We'll count down the winning stories in a special episode this summer.

1:21.0

The top creator will get a private feedback session with our team, as well as $100 in credit
