If what you want doesn't exist, build it.

I had a teacher in elementary school that would say,

the last thing you want to do is walk around,

walk through life with your hand extended,

hoping fate would give you what you wanted.

Hoping destiny would magically you what you wanted.

Hoping destiny would magically drop what you needed into them.

And it's like, as a kid, it made sense, noted.

Don't look for handouts.

Take initiative.

Take action.

It's an important message to hear. But as an adult, I look back and think,

well, maybe that's just part of it. I think it also means in life, you need to be the painter of your own portrait. You need to be the architect. Not just someone sitting on the

sidelines criticizing what's already been made, not just a silent observer. And that mental

switch or transformation ended up being incredibly valuable.

Most people simply aren't doers.

Most people don't initiate.

In fact, most people sit on the sidelines and react to the doers.

Most people don't build.

Most people complain, condemn, and criticize that which has already been built.

We talk about Teddy Roosevelt's man in the arena.

Well, growing up is realizing everyone's in the arena.
