Summary

In this episode, Douglas Wilson returns to the question of immigration, arguing that the real issue is not immigration versus no immigration but rates of immigration. He then explores the morally neutral verb metastrepho, to turn, showing how turning from vice to virtue is repentance while turning the gospel is to pervert the gospel of Christ, before concluding with a review of Plato’s Revenge and its case that the spiritual world is a necessary, empirically demonstrable reality.

Welcome to the podcast. My name is Douglas Wilson. This is episode 414, 414. So last week we talked about Minnesota fraud. And when you have the amount of money that's available from a country that is as rich and prodigal as ours is,

0:38.3

and you have massive numbers of immigrants

0:42.3

who have access to welfare benefits and that sort of thing.

0:47.3

I mean, immigrants by the hundreds of thousands and by the millions.

0:52.3

When that happens, you are just asking for trouble, right?

0:56.7

You're just asking for trouble.

0:58.5

And the central problem is not this immigrant or that one.

1:03.4

The central problem is the total package.

1:07.4

Now, I've used this illustration before, and I may have used it on the podcast, but our online

1:14.8

discussions of this whole subject have gotten so heated and so irrational that I think

1:22.3

that it's important for us to go over the basics again. The issue is not immigration versus no immigration. The issue is

1:32.0

rates of immigration. And as I'm never tired of saying, by what standard? Let's say you imported,

1:41.8

just to make this situation very stark, let's say you imported two million people

1:50.5

from a third world country and you flew them all to a state, an American state that only

1:58.9

had one million people in it, like Wyoming.

2:02.9

Okay?

2:03.9

Let's say you took two million people from Ethiopia or two million people from Somalia or two

2:09.7

million people from Nigeria and you dropped them down in Wyoming and the Native Americans would be 1 million people,

2:19.7

and the immigrants are 2 million people.

2:22.4

You've not just imported an individual immigrant

2:27.4

and then multiplied that individual many times over.

2:30.5

You've also imported Somalia.
