Election years are notorious as a time when rhetoric on immigration and the US-Mexico

border escalate on both sides of the political spectrum.

Even Democratic candidates over the past few decades have tended to

take a more hard-line stance on immigration leading up to elections.

Just a few weeks ago, President Biden signed an executive order to cap asylum requests at the border during a surge.

I've seen actions to bar migrants who cross our southern border unlawfully.

A move the New York Times called the single most restrictive border policy instituted

by any modern Democrat, even though he'd condemned a similar measure under the Trump presidency
