Good morning. It is Sunday, February the 7th. I'm Ali Velshi. There are two days and until the second

impeachment trial of the failed former president of the United States for incitement of

insurrection. And within the next two weeks, President Joe Biden and congressional

Democrats are expected to begin

putting forth a massive $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package named the American Rescue

Plan aimed at doing just that, helping desperate Americans during this disastrous pandemic.

And it can't come soon enough.

Not only are there nearly 10 million fewer jobs

than there were a year ago, and not only are weekly new jobless claims still at levels

never seen before the pandemic, but almost 40% of jobless Americans in January were long-term

unemployed, meaning they've been out of work for longer than six months. Now, that dates back to the

summer, and it's nearing a record that was set during the peak of the Great Recession. Daily new

COVID cases continue to be in the mid-100,000, and more than 3,000 Americans are still dying

every day from the disease, continuing to represent enormous pain and suffering for millions of

Americans across the country. More than 27 million Americans in total have now been diagnosed with

COVID-19. More than 463,000 have now died. And experts and scientists continue to warn about another

surge in the coming weeks and months,

resulting from the multiple highly contagious COVID-19 variants currently spreading across the country.

This is the reason President Biden is vowing not to waste any time.

A lot of folks are losing hope.

And I believe the American people are looking right now to their

government for help, to do our job, to not let them down. So I'm going to act, and I'm going to
