Summary

Tennessee Volunteers face skepticism over their quarterback situation, but is counting out Josh Heupel’s offense a mistake? Eric Cain breaks down why doubting the Vols due to inexperienced QBs is both lazy and misguided, spotlighting Heupel’s proven record with first-year starters like Sam Bradford, Drew Lock, Dillon Gabriel, Hendon Hooker and more. Does history suggest Tennessee’s offense will surprise critics yet again? The episode also ranks the Volunteers’ presence in On3’s Top 100 college football players, with Chaz Coleman and Braylon Staley making the cut, and highlights elite opponents Tennessee will face, including Texas and South Carolina standouts. Wrapping up, Cain recaps the Vols baseball team’s SEC tournament run, discusses Selection Monday projections, and updates listeners on injuries to key players like Reese Chapman. Can Tennessee outperform the naysayers this season—both on the gridiron and diamond?

The doubting of Josh Hepple due to inexperienced quarterbacks right now in Knoxville is hilarious and so ignorant.

0:07.7

It's such a lazy take.

Good Friday morning, everybody. Welcome into Locked On Balls. I am your host, Eric Kane. Today's episode, we're going to look at Tennessee Baseball, finish its tenure, finish its run. It lasted two days down here in Hoover in the SEC tournament.

0:39.3

What's next for Tennessee baseball? Where is Tennessee baseball projected in the NCAA tournament for selection Monday coming up in just a couple of days?

0:46.3

We'll talk baseball in segment number three. Top 100 Tennessee players, top 100 opponents that Tennessee will be playing this year. On three has released

0:56.5

the top 100 football players for the upcoming season. We'll dive into that and how that impacts

1:01.1

Tennessee and second number two. But first, kind of the meat of this show, I wanted to discuss

1:05.6

how ignorance and how lazy the take is that everybody's just counting out Tennessee this year because oh, they don't have a quarterback, they don't have a quarterback, they don't have a quarterback. And again, we talk about this all the time. We do the majority of our shows over the quarterback conversation because again, that's the biggest deal with Tennessee football right now. And we talked about in the transfer portal, like, well, Tennessee's got to go get Sam Levitt, Tennessee's got to go get Sam Levitt, Tennessee's got to do everything they can to keep Joey Aguilar.

1:30.0

I mean, I said that countless times.

1:31.1

So I fall victim of it as well.

1:33.6

Don't get me wrong.

1:34.4

And I think in a perfect world, sure, you would have landed Sam Leavitt or Joey Aguilar's case would have gone a different way in court.

1:39.2

And you would have a veteran quarterback on roster this year.

1:42.1

So again, I think Josh Hebel wanted that. would have gone a different way in court, and you would have a veteran quarterback on roster this year.

1:45.9

So, again, I think Josh Heppel wanted that.

1:45.9

But still, when you look at the history with Josh Heiple with first year starting quarterbacks

1:49.3

or young starting quarterbacks, it's very, very good.

1:56.6

So the fact that everybody, you know, you can think down on Tennessee all you want. You can have Tennessee ranked in the back half of your FCC power rankings. You can have Tennessee outside the top of 25. That's fine. But if it's solely, oh, they don't have a quarterback, so I'm going to drop them down. Well, sure, you can drop them down a couple of pegs or two, but just to count them out because of no quarterback, that's an ignorant take.

2:01.4

And that's a lazy
