Fire. It is one of the most powerful forces in nature,

a dual-edged element that symbolizes both creation and destruction.

In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the monster,

a symbol of humanity's most terrifying potential, learns to wield fire.

At first, he uses it to provide warmth and sustenance, but soon it becomes a tool of vengeance

and anger. Rejected by his creator, cast out by society, the monster's rage ignites, and fire transforms into a weapon of destruction.

This same duality of fire, its capacity to nurture and annihilate, can be found in the real-life case of Peter Tredgett, a British arsonist whose first deadly act came at the age of just 12.

Like Frankenstein's monster,

Tredgett was a societal outcast.

He faced rejection, isolation,

and the harsh realities of growing up in a world

where he felt unseen and unwanted.

And much like Shelley's creation, Tredget turned to fire, a force he could control,

to wreak havoc on the world that had turned its back on him.

this seemingly unassuming young man
