I seem to get endless stories from Appalachia, stories of the most insanely terrifying stuff

you can imagine, or even fail to imagine.

This story is yet another disturbing mark against that very haunted region of America.

This story, titled She Followed Us for Days from an Anonymous Cinder,

tells of two men, two friends, enjoying one of many hikes they had done countless times before.

But this hike turns into a nightmare when something uninvited begins to stalk them,

a creature that looks human, but is clearly not.

Briggs and I had been hiking together since we were 19, which means by the time I'm telling you about,

we'd been doing it for 13 years. We met freshman year at Penn State, and a campus outdoors club

that neither of us took seriously. The club was run by a junior named Danielle, who wore chocos in

November, and talked about Leave No Trace principles like they were scripture.

Briggs said next to me at the first meeting, leaned over and whispered,
