Visit NPR.org slash elections. Well, after weeks of pressure from his own party, faced with the reality of a faltering

re-election campaign, President Joe Biden

is no longer seeking a second term. Yesterday, the president announced in the

letter posted to social media that he is stepping aside as the presumptive

Democratic presidential nominee. While it has been my intention to seek

re-election, the president wrote, I believe it is in the best interest of my

party and the country for me to stand down and

focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of the term.

He also said he would speak about it in greater detail later on this week.

Shortly after that, Joe Biden endorsed

Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place at the top of the ticket and

here's how some of you are feeling about it. My reaction is primarily surprise,

and now it's kind of like we're all sitting on the edge of our seats

waiting for the DNC to find out who the nominee is going to be.

It's a little disconcerting.

Hi, this is Gary from Hillsborough, New Hampshire. I find this situation extremely interesting,

and I for one would, being an independent voter, would love to see a mixed ticket come out of the Democratic Party.

Joe Biden has been a great president and Joe Biden is ready to be a transitional president

like he said.
