Most Americans now get at least some of their news on social media,

but these platforms are increasingly being overrun by AI-powered bots.

One estimate found that around 20% of accounts on social media are bots, while another study found

that for controversial topics, nearly half of all posts could be bot generated. Now, those numbers are

still hard to verify.

But experts are sounding the alarm that AI bots used in large-scale social media campaigns could threaten our democracy and the upcoming presidential election.
