Summary

There's a common mis understanding about the phrase, "If you build it, they will come." A classic quote from Field of Dreams, but an often-deceiving belief we have as creators. Trust in the universe and belief in yourself are paramount, but do you really want to leave it up to chance?

Today's episode includes three tactics for strategically getting your work seen. If you haven't already, check out CJ RAW episode, The Other 50 Pct. We recap that concept briefly and then talk about how to amplify the stuff you're putting out into the universe.

A few questions to get you going before the show:

  1. How are you participating in your community? Are you adding value to those around you?

  2. What does patience do to your creative longevity?

  3. Who are you creating for?

  4. How do you manage your time on social? Are you blocking out time and engaging strategically?

Feeling like you’re yelling into the wind doesn’t mean your work isn’t good. So keep building, but don’t leave it up to chance.

Enjoy!

There's a popular saying in our culture that if you build it, they will come. And I am today in this episode, this micro show, here to tell you that that is just straight up not true. So instead, I want you to think of if you build it, they won't necessarily come.

0:23.4

And then the follow-on question, the obvious follow-on question is that, well, Chase, if I want people to see my work, my product, my photography, my business, if I want awareness in popular culture, if I want to get the work, my deep meaningful work

0:38.6

out into the world, how do I get people to see it? So today's episode is intended, again,

0:46.7

under the operating title, if you build it, they won't necessarily come. So today's episode

0:51.5

is intended to take this concept that you've heard from me on this podcast,

0:55.7

in the books, in the videos on the internet, this other 50% concept and make it into something

1:04.3

that is actionable and digestible for anyone who wants to maximize the reach, the engagement with an audience,

1:14.3

ideally something that you craft and grow to get your work in front of people, to get your work

1:22.0

seen. Because you can have the best ideas in the world. But if they are hiding in your

1:27.4

parents' basement,

1:28.4

they do nobody any good. So then, under that line of thinking, this originally came from a guest's

1:40.4

question some time ago on The Daily Creative. That person, if you remember, that's a YouTube

1:46.4

series where I've answered 100 questions from you that have come in over the course of a

1:50.7

long time. You can do that by a sub into my YouTube channel. The original question was,

1:55.5

how do I network? How do I build community? And the concept of the other 50% is that you should spend roughly 50% of your

2:06.9

time doing amazing work. And what is commonly misunderstood is that the people who you look

2:16.2

out to the universe and see that they have the

2:19.3

traction, the engagement, whether you call it success, fulfillment, whatever, that they have

2:24.6

actually, those people that you look up to admire, respect, that appreciate that you maybe know

2:28.3

their work, they have actually done this work that I'm talking about, which is the other 50%.

2:33.8

They've put at some

2:35.1

place, time spot, some vector, they have put 50% of their effort in an ongoing way into
