The idea of an American citizen presenting himself at or herself at the Canadian border,

and he's saying, I request asylum in Canada under Canadian law because I've been targeted

for political persecution in the United States of America.

This is how extraordinary it is. I mean, you think about that for you. Think about

that for Joe Biden, right? I mean, again, this seems when you first think about it, like a crazy

thing to think about. But if Trump decides, well, I'm going to try to lock up the former president,

who I just defeat in the election, because I think he's a crook and he came after me in the January,

or the members of the January 6th committee, you could envision a scenario that's not too many

logical leaps from where we are now, where American politicians, incumbents or former politicians,

have to flee the country because the president is going after them.

Welcome. Thanks so much for having me.

You wrote a great piece in the Globe and Mail, and I want to talk about that today,

and I just want to get it going. The lead of it is, the headline, is the U.S. has a choice.

Keep on choosing or give it up for good. In November,

U.S. voters will explicitly decide the future of their democracy and bodily autonomy,

and they can no longer be complacent about the freedoms they enjoy. Choice will define the 2024 United States

election on November 5th. The claim may seem as trite as it is self-evident. After all,

every Democratic election is about choice. Add up all the individual voting decisions of the electorate, and

lives are shaped based on the outcome. Choosing is how the whole thing functions. But the U.S.
