Summary

Many Christians say, "Just preach the gospel—God will do the rest." But Scripture paints a richer picture: the gospel is the power of God for salvation, and God still calls us to reason, explain, and persuade. In this episode, J. Warner Wallace walks through key passages—from Romans and Proverbs to the book of Acts—to show how Jesus' first followers actually shared the message. You'll see why Peter, Paul, and the other apostles worked so hard to contextualize the same unchanging gospel for very different audiences, from devout Jews to skeptical philosophers and hostile officials.

J. Warner then turns to our modern, post‑Christian culture and makes the case that wise persuasion and careful "translation" are not optional add‑ons, but part of biblical evangelism. You'll learn why trusting the Spirit and the power of the message should actually motivate you to think harder about your words, your tone, and your starting point in every conversation. If this episode challenges or helps you, please take a moment to subscribe, rate, and review the podcast—your feedback helps more people discover this content and strengthens our growing community of Christian case makers.

Today we're going to talk a little bit about probably something if you're interested in apologetics,

0:28.6

it's bothered you in the past. Maybe you're in a church where you can't, you feel like there's

nothing I can do here to get anyone interested in the evidence for Christianity.

0:39.9

And I get all the time emails from people who will say, yeah, how do I energize my church?

0:46.9

I'm not the pastor of my church. I'm not really necessarily in a leadership role, but I am interested.

0:52.9

I mean, I'll be willing to teach a class

in apologetics. The problem, of course, is I can't get anybody interested, and the pastor doesn't

0:58.9

seem like he cares about it. So I'm not sure what to do, and why is that happening? Okay, well,

1:04.0

sometimes it's happening, it's because, you know, it's not, this is a level of investigation

1:09.2

that if you aren't just geeked out about all the things related to

1:14.0

the Bible and to God and to your conversion experience, I think that kind of helped me. I got

saved when I was 35 and as an adult I was really motivated to go back and make this the center

of everything. And so I wasn't raised and didn't take it. I never took it for granted. And I've always been super interested in all things Bible. So that ends up, you know, I mean, it says I got saved. And that ends up driving a lot of what I do. And this is a lot more work, right? If you're listening to this podcast, you've already dedicated a certain amount of time to studying the evidence for Christianity. And that

1:47.7

additional step of extra work is a barrier for a lot of people who maybe just aren't that

1:52.3

they've got other things they'd rather do. I get it. Totally get it. Part of the time, though,

1:57.5

it's theological. It's like there's a sense that, hey, our job is just to preach the gospel.

2:04.3

That's it.

2:05.7

And the gospel is powerful in and of itself.
