I attended my lovely friend Francesca Anvers' goal setting party a couple of days ago, and I loved it.

I love goal setting.

I love ideating. I love taking some time out for me to check

in with myself or welcome myself back home to myself and start thinking, start reflecting,

start doing some fun planning if that feels right and if that feels good. And I wanted to share

with you something that came up during that goal setting party

that I thought, oh, I've got to share this with my pod listeners.

Francesca was talking about the concept of a fallow year.

Does anyone know what a fallow year is?

It was the first time I'd heard it, but I have to say I do love a native year. Does anyone know what a fallow year is? It was the first time I'd heard it, but I have to say I do

love a nature metaphor for understanding life and the world. And a fallow year from my understanding

is simply when in the farming community, there is a field that skips a year of harvest.

It just, it skips a year in order to have essentially longer term better productivity.

So instead of completely milking the field year after year after year expecting too much from it,

we go, that field is taking a break.

How about using the right language here, field?

Is that the right word to use?

I don't know.

But instead of, you know, milking every single year and every season, cyclically, there are fields

that farmers just give a rest to, a whole year of rest,

so that the following year, they will reap a bigger, better harvest.
