So here we are, deep into the throes of Lent.

And the question comes up at some point. Okay, why do you guys, you guys being like,

you Christians or Catholics? Why do you fast during Lent?

Why do you have extra prayer during Lent? Why do you have alms giving as an emphasis during Lent?

And the answer, of course, is really straightforward.

As we probably had stated in other videos, it's because Jesus essentially told us we would be doing these things.

As you know, in the sermon on the Mount, Jesus doesn't say, hey, if you fast, do it like this.

If you pray to it like this, if you give alms to it like as he says, when, when you fast,

when you pray, when you give alms, do it like this.

So this is kind of a, I don't want to say a subtle like Midwestern passive aggressive.

Like, hey, you guys, if you're interested in doing this sometime, this is Jesus being very clear.

He's our Lord savior telling us, you're going to do these things.

You're going to pray. You're going to fast.

You're going to give alms. That should mark the Christian life, right?

Just like denying yourself, pick up your cross and follow me.

Mark the way of the disciple.

So does how do we do those things by prayer, by fasting, by alms giving?
