I don't know too many parents who really just want their child to stay in their house for the rest of their life.

I think most parents are longing for the day that, you know, 18, 19 happens and the child launches out.

That's the goal.

I mean, who wants to raise a totally dependent adult? I mean, you don't want that.

We're going to be talking today how to respond well when that kind of independent adult bounces back.

What to do when they move back in? I'm John Fuller, along with Dr. Danny Werta, who leads our parenting team.

And let's go ahead and hear now from Dr. Gary Chapman, who spoke with

Focus on the Family President Jim Daly, and lean in here. And by the way, if you know somebody

who either has a child who's moved back in or if that's you, I know you're going to find this

helpful. You offer some specific guidelines about how parents and young adults should negotiate

expectations and responsibilities at home. What does that guideline discussion look like?

Well, I think if the young adult comes home and is moving back in, that is the time to have a

conversation about, okay, we're happy for you to be here.

Let's talk about how we can make this work best for all of us.

And so we're going to share, we'll share some of our concerns and thoughts.

You share some of yours and let's make some decisions here on how we can make this beneficial for all of us,

because that's what we want, you know. And starting it early rather than waiting three months before you're bringing up a conversation like this in which you're really frustrated by what they're doing or not doing, far better to have that conversation early on. I like that. I mean, I like that. I'm just trying to think, how does that play through? Well, we had a rental agreement that I drafted for each of the kids when they bounced back,
