Madison, I can't stop thinking about this email that we got from a listener who said

that they did the crate challenge, which our last episode was about, more than 25 years ago,

in Berlin.

A very dramatic allegation in this subject line from Marla, Slate Plus member, who says the crate challenge was invented in Europe and says, we use beer or soda crates here, but it's basically the same idea.

I won my company's crate climb in my 20s, narrowly beating a very disappointed 10-year-old more than 25 years ago in Berlin.

Okay, and she includes a picture. They use harnesses,

like fully, like suspended. As she notes in this email, no one gets a hurt.

I really feel like this is different than the crate challenge that we dissected in our last

episode simply because there is

no safety measures involved in the one that is currently going viral.
