I'm John Fasiel, and it's cold in Chicago. It's like painful, why do we live here cold?

So why not revisit a question? We answered about one of the curious chores the city undertakes whenever it gets

stupid cold like this. The question comes from Devon Neff. Devon used to live downtown and

during the winter would often gaze at the river. I wake up in the morning. I see this nice sheet of

ice on the river and then come back a little bit and there it is all broken up and just is a fascinating process. Devon wonders what prompts the ice breaking on the river?
