Summary

With Mack Brown being formally introduced on Tuesday as the new head football coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, a new chapter for UNC football is about to begin. When Inside Carolina broke the story on Monday that Brown was going to be named as head coach, the initial reactions from both the UNC fanbase and national media to the news were mixed. Concerns were raised about Brown’s age, as well as the fact that he had been out of coaching for several years. However, after a very impressive press conference where Brown looked energetic and spoke extremely optimistically about UNC football, many of the initial skeptics about his hire have been swayed. In this podcast, hosts Jon Seiglie and Tommy Ashley interview three former players who were all coached by Mack Brown – Chris Keldorf, Bernardo Harris, and Anthony Perkins – to get their thoughts on Brown’s return to Chapel Hill. Seiglie also speaks with Taylor Vippolis and Mike Ingersoll to get their reactions to Brown’s press conference and discuss the next steps Brown will be taking as head coach. 1:10.1

Yeah, I was kind of skeptical, probably like a lot of people.

1:15.7

You know, it's while Mac Brown is a proven winner, he hasn't coached in now five years.

1:22.5

And when he was finishing up coaching, you know, Texas kind of ran him out of Austin. So I think there

1:29.3

is a reason to kind of be, kind of have your guard up if you're Carolina. I think a lot of people

1:35.6

are going back to the memories of the 90s. But, you know, with Mack Brown coming back,

2:05.3

Yeah, and I think that the tone has largely shifted, I feel like, across like social media and the various platforms following the press conference today.

2:15.2

Because like you said, I think you saw some Carolina fans

2:19.1

and just members of the media express some uncertainty about the higher big, because like you said,
