Summary

Inside Carolina's senior reporter Greg Barnes joins Tommy Ashley to dissect North Carolina's improved three-point shooting during the month of January. With Henri Veesaar leading the way percentage-wise, the Tar Heels have found a rhythm across the board from outside and as Barnes points out, the offensive improvement is clear. The question that remains is the rise sustainable and how better can the offense work with the improvements. **Call to Action:**   **Subscribe:** Follow 'Inside Carolina' wherever you get your podcasts to never miss an episode!   **Review:** Leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify to help us reach more Tar Heel fans!   **Visit:** Explore http://www.InsideCarolina.com for breaking news, recruiting updates, and expert commentary on all things UNC sports. Greg Barnes, is this sustainable. Rob

0:22.6

Harrington wrote a column on inside Carolina. I'm about the I guess heating up is the best

0:29.2

way to put it. North Carolina's three-point shooting. It certainly opens everything else up for

0:33.9

Carolina. Your thoughts on that is definitely necessary for sure for this team.

0:40.9

Yeah, for sure. And Rob did a good job, kind of putting that column together.

0:45.6

It's interesting. When you go back to the beginning of the season, North Carolina really

0:49.9

struggled out of the gate. And we had a significant conversation on the IC message boards

0:55.9

about what it actually meant and how much early season success parlays into late season success

1:04.7

and vice versa. And surprisingly, or maybe not, there's a pretty good correlation in terms of how you do to start the year versus how you do to end the year.

1:16.6

It's not these wide swings that a lot of people tend to think can happen.

1:23.5

So, for example, the first couple weeks of the season, North Carolina was shooting 32.6%.

1:28.5

And over the last 10 years, pretty much what you shoot in that first stretch of games, you finish pretty close to that.

1:38.9

And the data supports that.

1:40.8

Well, North Carolina, because they have been hot in January currently on the season they're

1:45.6

shooting 34.6 percent so you're talking about two percentile points in the positive direction

1:53.4

and a lot of times you'll see your teams that when they play weak opponents early they actually

1:58.7

shoot better than what they shoot against conference play.

2:02.0

Carolina has been kind of the opposite of that, which has been a benefit.

2:05.6

And through six games in January, North Carolina is shooting 38.6% from 30.
