I'm here with Adam Thomas and we're going to talk about spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.

Josh, I've been slacking for two years.

For two years.

I can't really read that luck.

I know COVID just changed time, but man, it's been a minute for sure.

So I'm glad we're back together, we're smiling, we're talking about something that we see

every day and it's fun, right?

Absolutely.

Today, spontaneous bacterial peritinitis, as you said, a hallmark and as the Weingard

tries to tell us, we're trying to have

these automatic reflexes in our mind of when we see patients, what do we think about bad things

that are happening? And when you see someone with known cirrhosis or you suspect cirrhosis and they

are in multi-organ failure, this can be a common driver. Can I not, Josh? Yeah, it absolutely can.

And I think one thing that we're going to talk about is that it can be kind of like a silent

driver of badness because the local findings can be extremely subtle or it can be totally

asymptomatic as far as local features. Sneaky, sneaky. Doesn't our job just present all the

fun all the time, Josh? So today, let's talk about

presenting clinical features, how to tap the belly, how to differentiate this from primary

bacterial parotinitis versus secondary from some other surgical badness, how we diagnose and

confirm on all our studies, and then how are we going to treat this? Last up, you'll finish us with a little pearl of how our neighbor, that is the plural space,

can get into trouble.
