I'm here with Adam Thomas and we're going to talk about invasive candidiasis.

Yay, we covered yeast and molds before and go check out the Antipungo Post for that one.

But Josh, we're going to focus just on Candida.

And this is like, I don't know about how much you spend on this, but is it colonization?

Should I treat this?

Should I not?

Sometimes it can be frustrating or sometimes a big waste of time.

So let's talk about the classification of Candida, when you should treat, when you shouldn't,

and then the specific areas it's going to infect.

So start us off, Candida in the

ICU. Is it a thing or not, Josh? Do I just call it colonization and move on? Yeah, this is so

frustrating. So as patients are in the ICU for longer periods of time and we give them tons and tons

of different broad spectrum antibiotics, eventually we destroy their microbiome and they become colonized with Canada.

And they circrown candida from their urine and their brocule secretions.

Their skin folds, their mouth, everything.

Yeah.

The issue is always, you know, is it a colonizer or is it causing invasive infection?

Because obviously, if it's causing true invasive infection, we need to treat it. But most of the time, it's going to be colonizer. And the best thing is

just to give them a bath and to ignore it. Okay. So if it's not colonization, though, if we think

it's truly invasive, whether they're immunosuppressed, they got dead tissue, something like that,

foreign body. How do you classify it from there?
