So delirium is essentially an acute brain dysfunction.

I kind of think about it a little bit like acute kidney injury. It's one of these things that often happens in the ICU. So it's certainly acute.

So this is separate from dementia of folks who are kind of chronically confused. And the hallmarks

are inattention, inability to pay attention, kind of complete tasks necessarily have a conversation.

And another key feature is that folks tend to wax and wanes. So they may be

totally normal one minute and then a couple minutes later, they may be completely hallucinating.
