We are joined by Notre Dame baseball captain Brady Gumpf, he and the Irish are heading down to Jacksonville, Florida this weekend to get the season started. You wouldn't know it by looking around here. I think baseball season kind of catches people off guard in mid-February. How you doing todayady i'm great shan thank you for having me absolutely

it's great to have you and for those maybe who recognize the last name it's you know like uh

notre dame softball coach diana gumpf and uh former notre dame baseball assistant john gumpf as well

are the parents of brady gump and he is now in his fifth season, fifth and final season at Notre Dame and a captain.

I'm curious, I mean, you grew up around Notre Dame, obviously, with your parents, you know,

having the connections that they have.

What are your, what are your first memories of Notre Dame baseball?

Oh, geez. That was a long time ago but uh i mean i remember when my dad started off coaching softball with my mom i don't remember

i don't have any like physical memories of that i've seen photos and stuff but i do remember

you know coming to my dad

in the dugout, maybe here and there, you know, just being able to work out in the facilities,

like, hitting off the tea when I'm like five years old. But past that, you know, we've been here,

I've been here my whole life and we live super close. So I would just walk.

It's like a good 20 minute walk. I bring a bat in a glove, walk from my house to the baseball games, you know, watch those for as long as I could. So that's, that's all you needed at that point,

right? When you're five years old, that's, that's kind of what I remember is like you and your dad would get inside the indoor facility and like you said,

hitting off the tea and all that kind of stuff, you know, and you were still just a young pup

way back when. Did you have, as you kind of, you know, got a little bit older, did you have some

favorite Notre Dame baseball players back then?

It's easy to say guys like Trey Mancini or A.J. Pollock,

who have been, you know, doing their thing in the big leagues.

I will never forget, Kevin Beggio with the whole bat waddle.

He, you know, he kind of stood out when he was in the box.
