Hollywood Reporters weekly awards podcast I'm the host Scott Feinberg and I'm

so pleased to be joined on this episode by the great, really legendary, Ian McKellen, who has done

so many terrific stage and screen productions over the years, over the decades, and most recently,

Mr. Holmes in which he plays Sherlock Holmes on his last case.

And so before we get to him though I do want to recap as we always do what else is going

on in the world of awards in the award season. To begin

with this past weekend was a big weekend for Oscar contenders at the box office.

We had a few that did very well, a few kind of tanked unfortunately in the latter camp were beasts of no nation the Netflix Commission

Narrative film their first which was released in a handful of theaters by Broad Greens

simultaneously to appearing on Netflix.

So it did not do very well at all in theaters, but that is not at all a sign that it is finished

because it does have the great perk of being available on Netflix.

So that one not doing well in theaters but still available.

Truth, however, does not have a streaming component, a day and day component attached, and so the fact that it tanked at the box office is a bad sign for that movie

although it was in limited release things don't usually turn around as they expand so not a good sign for truth the journalism movie

...
