Good to see you again.

So you recently wrote about China, the Middle East, and the U.S. election.

Want to get into all of those. Let's start with China. I think your take

is things aren't getting worse. Is that the best we can expect? My take is a little better than that.

It's that this relationship has been better managed of late without the Americans giving away the

store. So, I mean, if you look at a very, very polarized U.S. political environment,

Biden's not taking a lot of incoming criticism on his China policy. Republicans and Democrats,

pretty aligned. And that's because the U.S. is maintaining high tariffs. They've got export controls

on semiconductors. They've got a robust policy militarily with lots of alliances all over Asia

that are only getting stronger.

New architecture like Ocas, which is expanding.

You've got the quad which is doing well.

You've got the Japan's South Korea breakthrough, ostensibly the most important diplomatic

breakthrough that's happened under the Biden administration, all of which are American allies

that want to work with the U.S. and are concerned about

Chinese assertiveness geopolitically in their backyard.

So that's going pretty well.

And the Chinese economy is something you know you spend more time on, of course, is not

doing very well.
