Matthew chapter 23, we begin with just really today, just a single verse that I want to camp out on.

Matthew 23, verse 37 for our text.

And there we read Jesus, red letters, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stone them which are sent unto thee.

How often would I have gathered

thy children together, even as a hen,

gathered her chicks under her wings,

and you would not.

Again, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets

and stones them which are sent unto thee,

how often would I have gathered thy children together,

even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings?

And you would not.

Interesting examples. under her wings, and you would not. Interesting example here.

It's a simile, actually, like or as, if I recall in my English classes from high school,

Jesus said, I would have gathered you even as a mother hen gathers her chickens.

What an interesting simile used here.

In fact, as we kind of divide this up, let's take a hard look at this little section of

scripture.

The first thing we started is this interesting example, a mother hen gathering her chicks.

It's amazing that, you know, I think that Jesus was so secure in his manliness that he could use an example like this. How many of you guys

would go up to the job site, you know, construction and the burn barrel in the morning,

you're kind of getting ready, you go up and, oh, you guys, I care about you. So I'm like, well, how much do you care about us?
