My Lord and my God, I firmly believe that you are here, that you see me, that you hear me.

I adore you with profound reverence. I ask your pardon for my sins and the grace to make this time of prayer fruitful.

My Immaculate Mother, St. Joseph, my Father and Lord,

my guardian angel, intercede for me.

The third Sunday in ordinary time,

a reading from the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 4.

Jesus saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter and Andrew his brother,

casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.

And he said to them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Immediately they left their nets and followed him.

And going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat

with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat

and their father and followed him. Dear apostles, what an astonishing reaction of yours? We don't know why Jesus decided to choose you and know others.

We don't know of any special talents you had, or whether you could write, read, speak in public, or answer basic religious questions about your faith.

But there is something we do know about you.

When Jesus called you, you responded immediately.

We don't know what Jesus saw on you, but maybe it was just that, that you were ready to say yes, without delay.

Perhaps Jesus called many others, but only you 12 were ready to leave everything and follow him immediately.

Peter, Andrew, James, John, Matthew, Philip, Nathaniel, all the apostles, your reaction

is astonishing.
