So today we are speaking with a woman named Christina Babin. She is a survivor of the controversial religious cult children of God.

She actually spent most of her childhood being raised in the cult and we're going to learn her story of growing up under these very specific circumstances and how she was eventually able to break free as an adult.

And the impact that it's had on her life up to today. So Christina, thank you so much for being on the show today.

Thank you. I really appreciate being here.

Yeah, totally. So I think to kick it off, can you just talk about how you initially became a member of the children of God cult and how old you are?

Yeah, so I was never a member by choice. I was basically born into it. I was a baby when my mother had joined in the late early 70s.

And my older brother and I were already born. And the cult took us in and they changed our names, hit us from our family and whisked us overseas.

And yeah, that was that's how it all started. During that time in the 1960s when the cult started, it was a very turbulent time in US history.

There was a lot of rebellion against society. There was a lot of dissatisfied youth people that were upset about the war.

They were unhappy with our, I don't know, I guess our democratic system. They were, you know, just dissatisfied with corruption and the pursuit of the American quote unquote happiness and they wanted a richer, fuller life that had less to do with materialism.

And there was a lot of young people that were very spiritual or wanted to be. They wanted something not so shallow.
