Summary

Tonight’s guest, Jonathan Downes, is the Director of The Center for Fortean Zoology, in Scottland. Jonathan founded The Center for Fortean Zoology 32 years ago, so this isn’t a new venture for him. When you consider all of the experience he has researching sightings and legends of unclassified creatures, how could there be a better eyewitness to come on the show to talk about a cryptid sighting he had? What Jonathan saw is called a woodwose. The term woodwose is in reference to what is believed to be a mythological being that is characterized by an untamed, wild, and hairy appearance. To some, they’re known as wild men. Others consider them to be the British equivalent to bigfoot. Nevertheless, in January of 2003, Jonathan saw a woodwose, and that experience is what Jonathan is going to be talking about on tonight’s show. We hope you’ll tune in and listen to him do that.

0:17.2	I'm the director of an organization called the Center for 14 Zoology, which I started in Scotland 32 years ago.
0:28.8	I live in England in a little village no one has ever heard of in North Devon, and I still run the Centre for Fortune Zoology from my home.
0:43.7	And back in 2003, in January, 2003, I saw a wood rose, and it was an enormous surprise to me and I suspect that if the thing I saw was sentient, it would have been just as much of a surprise to it.
1:10.0	It's quite a complicated story, how I got to see the Woodrow's,
1:16.9	but at the end of 2002, from back September or October onwards, there's been a big spate
1:26.2	of Woodrow's sightings in Britain, and this is something
1:31.3	that doesn't or hadn't usually happened in Britain for many years. They happen very occasionally,
1:40.3	but to have a whole string of these things happening all the way across the
1:46.3	country from Northumberland in the north to Sussex in the south was unprecedented.
1:56.7	And just after Christmas that year, I was approached by two different people from Northumberland
2:06.2	who wanted me and my research team to come up and investigate because they had met a whole string of witnesses.
2:18.3	They had gathered a lot of information,
2:21.3	and they wanted to hand it over to the experts.
2:25.1	Well, I would like to say that I'm an expert,
2:28.2	but I'm just like the rest of you.
2:30.5	When we're dealing with something as peculiar as this,
2:36.3	there is no experts.
2:40.8	Everybody is flailing around in the dark.
2:58.2	And so I was as nervous as anybody else would be when in the second week in January, we drove up to a place called Bolham Lake up, about 40 miles north-west of Newcastle City Centre up in the north of England to meet, first of all, the guy who'd been researching
