Summary

The Oscars weren’t controversial—they were just painfully boring. And in trying to chase viral moments and stay relevant, Hollywood accidentally proved just how out of touch it’s become. All right guys, I was not even sure if I wanted to do an episode on this subject, but I watched

0:05.3

the Oscars last night and it was possibly the most boring evening of my life. And because it was so

0:10.8

boring, I felt like I needed to make something of it. I was like I did not just waste three

0:14.8

hours of my life to not make any content to just be posting on my Instagram stories. Because

0:19.2

even though it was boring, I do have thoughts about why it was boring and where we should go from here.

0:23.6

Because yes, there is always some sort of meaning we can extract from these big social events.

0:28.6

So what you need to know is that this show was completely meh.

0:32.6

What did I watch? Like it was relatively apolitical, much to the disappointment of thirsty journalists and conservative commentators everywhere who were sitting ready to watch, ready to be outraged about everything.

0:41.6

0:49.7

And yet I struggled.

0:51.6

I have painfully struggled to squeeze out a chuckle at various points of the show.

0:56.4

But more than anything, and this is really what I want to talk about today, is that I think it

0:59.5

showed how far behind Hollywood is in the entire media and entertainment landscape and why they

1:04.5

are still struggling every day to relate to my generation. Now before we dive into all of that

1:09.5

and I tell you what I actually did think was kind of funny, if you want to see behind the scenes content, everything from baby cows being born to me taking my husband to Costco for the first time, then make sure you check out cooper confidential.com. That is our subscription platform that we built from the ground up for you guys. And that is where all of that BTS fun stuff happens. Diving into this, I should have to say, I think my

1:28.5

vlogs are far more entertaining than what we saw last night, Sunday night on our television.

1:34.3

So, before we get into my whole take about what I think Conan O'Brien was trying to communicate

1:38.0

throughout the entire performance and what jokes he kept going back to, I do just want to give

1:41.5

you my overview thoughts. And number one, and I think this might be the most important one, we desperately must cut back the time allotted to the presenters.
