Hey, Joseph Fincare. A few months ago we shared the first episode of my new podcast,

0:05.0

I only listened to the Mountain Goats. It was, I think, a very good episode,

0:09.6

but it was also one where we were figuring a lot of stuff out both within how we were doing

0:14.5

the conversation and in how we edited it. And so I wanted to check in with you here

0:19.5

with episode 10 of our podcast, our most recent episode, and one that I think better represents

0:25.2

where this show ended up going. Enjoy. This is the notebook that I took to Ireland on the,

0:35.1

I mean, it was before Tallahassee was out, but the first time that we went to a Peter I went over there.

0:39.2

And then here's the original lyric too, which is in wonders. Oh wow. It has, I mean,

0:45.5

this is what's really wild about some of the songs from I was Texas. I don't think there's

0:50.2

a previous draft of that. I think that's the amount of correction that went into it.

0:54.0

You've got one line, no, turn line crossed out and then like one word crossed out.

0:59.7

Invent has been changed to I learned because I think I noticed I was going to need to invent

1:03.1

somewhere else. So there's that, and there's also the fact that though now I'm superstitious about

1:07.3

pen colors and I won't write in blue or red. I will only write in black ink. Interesting.

1:12.4

And this is pretty clear back then. I was like, I don't care. Oh wait, no, there must have been

1:18.4

a previous draft. You know how you can tell? I am healthy. I am whole, etc. So there must have

1:25.3

been a previous draft somewhere else. I know there's a song that I never got written called

1:30.6

You and your Latin jazz. Like that one. Yeah, I think this notebook went through a bunch of

1:36.4

different iterations like it was at one point. Yeah, then it becomes a, then it becomes a

1:43.2

essentially a notebook. It went through like this one was around for four albums and there's still

1:47.8

a lot of blank paper in it. It feels weird. If I take one of these old notebooks and start writing

1:51.6

new songs in it, it feels bizarre even though it's just paper. I hate writing longhand and so all
