Summary

For the first time I'm going to be streaming my Sunday evening Bible study from home. Jesus' teaching in this passage, Mark 9:33-42, is meant to stop abuses in leadership, unnecessary division and competitive self-seeking in Christians. These issues are so relevant to us today that we need to take Jesus' words to heart. It may require that we change some things about ourselves or our ministries. Subscribe and make sure to click the bell icon if you want notifications when I go live. Keep your eyes on Jesus. This is part 32 in the ongoing series through the Gospel of Mark. You can catch the whole series here (and perhaps now is a good time to start a series!) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ3iRMLYFlHuGenHwUdeiQ5M-uj5XW4sF If you want to support this ministry please click here. But, if you are deciding between helping my ministry and another one which may be at great financial risk during this crisis I ask that you support the other ministry as I am not currently at risk of shutting down like they might be. Thank you. https://biblethinker.org/index.php/donate

do a different topic or something like that. I really like just plotting through the passage and picking up where I've left off the next time.

So this is the Mark series and may I by way of introduction say my name is is Mike not Mark and I just

0:36.6

want to clear the air on that because the truth is that in the comments section

0:40.4

ever since I started doing the Mark series. So the Gospel of Mark, people think my name is Mark, and I'm not offended by that, but I thought I should let you know. My name is not Mark. It's Mike. But this is the Mark series. This is part 32. We're in Mark chapter 9

versus 33 through 42. That's what we're covering today. This is going to talk

0:58.3

about unnecessary division, unnecessary division in the body of Christ,

1:02.0

competition and self-seeking amongst Christian leadership's,

1:06.1

leadership people, people who are in Christian leadership.

1:09.2

Or another way to put it, pastors are not supposed to be

1:15.0

the world and there are some real important differences there and

1:17.7

Jesus in this passage in Mark 9, he's like,

1:21.1

basically he's like beating into the disciples how he wants them to be so different

1:25.3

than what comes natural. Get this, then what comes natural when we start to step

1:29.1

into leadership. We get weird very quickly when we get authority and Jesus is trying to correct that and keep that from happening so we can have godly Christian leadership

1:38.6

Lots for us to learn in this passage. We're just going to read straight through the passage starting in Mark 9,

1:42.8

verse, and we'll read right down to verse 42,

1:45.7

just to put the whole passage loaded in our minds,

1:48.0

and then we'll go through it verse by verse, nice and slow.

And if you're joining me live, which you guys right now are those who are watching later
