I have good news for you.

You're not enough.

Hear me out.

I know these days we're only supposed to be affirming and positive and accepting of whatever, whenever, and whomever. It's certainly bad form to go around

telling people they're not enough. But frankly, I think the notion that we can somehow be perfect

just the way we are has led to a lot of narcissism and anxiety.

We're led to believe perfection is somehow possible with one more pound lost, one more degree

gained, one more career milestone hit. And so we always chase it and always fall short.

This is what I love about the Easter season.

The Christian celebration of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection reminds us that we are not

enough and we can't be enough on our own. But God became man and completed the path to perfection

for us. We don't need to run ourselves ragged, trying to be the best,

the richest, the nicest, the most successful. We don't need to be the most pious or righteous.

We need him, and he stands in that gap for us. He makes the bridge between our imperfections and heavenly perfection.

And when you learn to lean into that, it's a relief. If we could be good enough all on our own,

we all would be by now, wouldn't we? None of us chooses to be less than good enough,

and yet we sense we are all the time in so many

different ways over so many different issues. The Easter story tells us to stop laboring in a vain
