Summary

Imagine a mother who stares at her baby.. She won’t smile. Won’t look it in the eye. Doesn’t react when it holds its arms out to be held. Refuses to comfort it when it cries. The baby screams and sobs. The mother won’t move. Now multiply that cruelty across each thousands of days. Switch the mother for a husband. Change the baby to a wife. Other people may throw out the “But does he hit you?” strawman (only extremes, only obvious physical, qualifiable harm counts as abuse). But that baby knows better. You know better. Your desolate heart knows better. The most devastating hurts don’t show on the outside. In this episode: - The different flavors of abuse vs. the different ways victims react - Reaction #1: Fighting Back - Reaction #2: Hiding - Reaction #3: Freezing - Reaction #4 Appeasing - How a still face and a baby show the impact of covert emotional abuse - Why trying to prevent emotional pain only creates more pain - Responses that lead to healing, freedom, and peace Listen or download the transcript at flyingfreenow.com/189 FREE: I'll send you the first chapter of my book, Is It Me? Welcome to episode 189 of the Flying Free Podcast. I love doing this. I seriously just love doing this so so much. I'm so glad to be back with you. Okay this past summer I got

0:37.3

on Facebook and I did a little rant about how annoyed I get when people and this is both men and women, come on to my social

0:46.1

media pages, whether it's Facebook or Instagram or Tik-Tok, and they whine about how it's so not fair that I'm only helping women.

0:55.0

I should know that men need help too. Shame on me.

0:59.0

I made the point that if I were helping new moms with infants and all my posts were created to help

1:04.3

them with the kinds of issues that they were having, like postpartum depression or nipple

1:08.6

soreness or insomnia, how ridiculous would it be if someone came onto my social media pages and complained

1:16.0

that I wasn't making free content for moms of teenagers? How rude of me!

1:21.0

Moms of teens need free help too, so what gives? Anyway I end up

1:26.0

making a funny tick talk about this and now I have something to link the

1:30.0

whiners to when they freak out on my pages. I've already been able to do it. It's just so convenient and

1:34.7

awesome. But the reason I'm telling you this is because I also got this amazing email from someone who has an adult son who was in an abusive marriage.

Listen to what she said.

I've been meaning to message you for months and just never think about it at the right time and then just now I

1:54.4

stumbled on your video rant about the people who give you a hard time about not

1:59.1

helping male victims. I laughed a lot. And I also thought, good grief. But anyway, I thought this might

2:08.0

be a good time to tell you that, ironically, you've helped my son so much.

2:13.9

Together, he and I have read so many books, blogs, articles,

and listen to so many podcasts on abuse, toxic relationships,
