| 0:32.9 | I didn't enter my consciousness. And little did I know, I lived through it. |
| 0:40.2 | But I didn't know it was going on |
| 0:42.3 | because I was well taken care of by loving parents |
| 0:45.8 | and a family environment. |

| 0:51.8 | whose parents were German immigrants that settled in Brooklyn, New York. |
| 0:57.0 | My father had some securities, owned some real estate, and Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, |
| 1:04.0 | or wherever it is, and lost everything. I never recovered financially and wound up getting jobs in a restaurant business |
| 1:15.6 | no longer as a manager because those jobs became few and far between |
| 1:20.6 | and wound up being a waiter for the rest of his life. |
| 1:25.6 | He worked hard to bring home money |
| 1:28.7 | so that he could take care of his family. |
| 1:31.3 | And he did so in a very heroic way. |
| 1:35.1 | I never heard him complain. |
| 1:38.1 | He didn't achieve much, financially speaking. But he had a great family family and he was a great father. |
| 1:47.0 | I grew up in a very dense neighborhood in the sense that there was lots of people. |
| 1:58.0 | Nobody had much money. There were five of us in the building. |
| 2:04.7 | We lived on the, I think the third or fourth floor is a walk up. There was no elevator. |
| 2:10.4 | We had one bedroom. I shared room with my two sisters. They slept on a bed together and I slept on a cot. |
