Summary

Over the last two years I went on a journey to find my faith for myself. Not through someone else's revelation. Straight to the source. And what came out of that season changed everything β€” including this show.

Disciples Journal is becoming TRACE. A five-step Bible investigation method built around one idea: most people read the Bible. TRACE teaches you to investigate it.

Monday June 1st. First official episode. Everything changes.

So a couple of weeks ago, I released an episode that some of you all may have seen where I told you that I was done.

0:06.7

I was finished with podcasting.

0:08.4

It was my last episode.

0:09.8

And honestly, in that moment, I meant it.

0:13.3

Or at least I thought I did.

0:15.8

But here's what has really been going on.

0:18.1

For a long time, my faith felt inherited, if you will. Like it was

0:23.1

something that was handed to me, something that I grew up with, built a platform around, talked

0:27.4

about for years, as you all have seen, but never actually gone and found for myself as deeply as

0:33.3

I could. And about two years ago, that started to bother me in a way that I couldn't ignore. I started to

0:39.2

ask deeper questions around my faith in sitting with the Bible differently in ways I never had

0:44.6

before. I was going to the original language of passages, looking at the historical context, the actual

0:50.2

world that the words were written into that I was studying and what I found wrecked me in the

0:57.8

best possible way and in that process my faith stopped feeling like something that I received

1:04.3

and started feeling like something I had discovered for myself and I started to find God through firsthand information. And I say that because we've all

1:16.4

had those instances where we always hear about someone else through a different source.

1:21.6

So it's like you have a friend or a peer that tells you about someone that you've never

1:25.0

necessarily met, talk to yourself personally,

1:28.5

but you only know of through other people's experience. And for a lot of my life, I didn't realize

1:34.7

that that's the way that I had interacted with God. I only knew him through secondhand information,

1:40.4

but I had never gone directly to the source myself. So two years ago, when I started studying the Bible differently, that's what happened.

1:48.0

I was going straight to God, experiencing him, hearing him for myself.
