Maybe it was fate that put me on the set of special report last night,

where he had a chance to talk about Rob Reiner and the horrifying murder of the iconic actor and director and his wife. The date had been

them weeks ago and when I first saw the news that has so sickened the world in which the

couple's mentally ill son has been arrested, you know, I had to stop reading. It just was so difficult to process what had

happened. And later in the day, it became very difficult to process, as I'll get to in a moment,

what had happened with the remarks by Donald Trump. But I figured I was one of the few,

not the only as it turned out, one of the few people at Fox News who had, because of an interview,

gotten to know Rob Reiner a little bit.

And you don't need me to talk about his amazing career.

Amazing.

The son of a comedy legend called Reiner.

He grew up as part of that Hollywood culture.

He was first known to most Americans playing Meathead on All in the Family. That was the Archie Bunker television show that dealt with bigotry through humor in which he was the hapless son-in-law.

And then, you know, appeared in a number of movies

and then moved on to this whole different career as a director

and the breadth of the films.

And I don't want this to get lost in the tragedy.

And I think a lot of movie critics are reminding us

that this is the guy who not only produced and directed you know

classic comedies like when Harry met Sally but also searing moral dramas like a few good men

the princess bride you know the the range of movies that Rob Reiner was responsible for, this is Spinal Tap.
