Turn with me, please, to the book of Luke this morning.

The book of Luke, the fourth chapter.

And 31, the Bible said they came down to Copernium, a city of Galilee, and Jesus taught them on the Sabbath days, and they were astonished

at his doctrine, for his word was with power.

Now, I don't know what translation you're reading, but a lot of translations here instead will say authority.

And I like that translation better.

The word power and authority are not translated consistently in the King James.

The same word that's translated power,

sometimes is translated authority.

Sometimes it's, you know, well, it's not consistent.

And, but it's because of the English language.

We use the word power to describe both,

power and authority. Somebody says, do you have the power to describe both power and authority.

Somebody says, do you have the power to do that?

And what are they talking about?

They're talking about authority or right or influence.

Or if somebody says, do you have the power to do it?

It could also mean, do you have the ability?

Do you have the resources to do it?

And so both of these elements are referred to repeatedly in the scriptures,

authority and power.

Said out loud authority and power.
