Summary

Have you seen headlines like this? Alcohol sales have suffered – and some blame the rampant rise of the “sober curious”! So, I ran an impromptu experiment: stop drinking for 100 days and report back. The benefits surprised me! And although I am back to enjoying a spirit or two, I learned a few really important lessons that changed me for the better (just not the lessons I expected). This report includes a dash of news with a mix of personal reflection. What’s our next “SmartHER in 100 days”??

Hi, guys. I recently ran an experiment on myself, and I would like to share the results with you.

0:12.1

And this is loosely tied to some recent news items.

0:16.2

So we're going to do a little bit of news, some headlines related to a topic that's not getting

0:21.4

necessarily front page attention, but could be interesting to you.

0:24.6

And then I'm going to share some personal reflections and the results of this experiment, which

0:31.5

was accidentally, well, maybe not accidentally, but stumbling into a project of 100 days not drinking alcohol

0:41.0

and what I learned from that experience and what I did not learn.

0:44.3

Let me start with this question.

0:45.5

Are you drinking more or less alcohol than you did a few years ago?

0:48.7

I mean, think back to the pandemic.

0:50.0

Are you drinking more or less alcohol than compared to that time period?

0:53.8

What about family and friends?

0:55.4

Do you notice anything different just anecdotally with your own behavior?

0:59.2

Maybe you're drinking more.

1:00.1

Maybe you're drinking less.

1:01.3

But I'm curious about your feedback on that.

1:03.7

And the reason why I'm curious about that is that we're seeing quite a few headlines related

1:08.0

to the alcohol industry and overall dropping sales. And this really

1:12.4

got my attention. Again, we've been dealing with a lot of really serious news over the last several

1:16.6

months. But I've seen a sort of a pace and a momentum related to this story where you're

1:24.6

actually seeing reports of vineyards, for example, in Napa, pulling out their vines

1:31.4

because of dropping sales. So that sounds really extreme. That got my attention a few months ago.
