Summary

Thomas Shay is the founder of the Northern Kentucky Bigfoot Research Group. Tom has been investigating the Sasquatch phenomenon since 1987. That’s when he had his first Sasquatch-related experience. You see, in 1987, Tom was heading to see his girlfriend, in Carlton, Kentucky, on US 36, when he had his first sighting. It was 85 degrees out, that day, so Tom was surprised when he saw what he, at first, thought was a man in a fur coat, on the side of the highway. As he got closer, he slowed down to a very slow speed and slowly went past the subject. After creeping by the subject, he felt like he didn’t get a good enough look at it, so he turned his car around, parked it on the side of the road, and got out so he could follow the subject down into a field. Moments later, Tom realized that was a poor decision. From that day on, Tom tried to learn all he could about Sasquatch. 0:16.5	I'm the founder of the Northern Kentucky Bigfoot Research Group here in Northern Kentucky.
0:21.8	I've been researching since 1987 on my first experience.
0:27.7	Back in 1987, I had a lot of leave for care when I was in the service, so I came home and visited my parents and stuff.
0:36.1	We live along the Ohio River, along U.S. 36 and 42.
0:44.2	And almost one particular October evening,
0:48.8	like it is right now, here in Kentucky, you know,
0:52.0	we've had weather like 70, 80 degrees here, you know.
0:57.5	And this afternoon, this one afternoon, I had a girlfriend that I used to see.
1:05.7	And she called me up and had my parents and asked me if I could come up and we'll go out and do something.
1:12.7	I said, sure.
1:15.2	So I get all cleaned up and I'm like that and I get in the vehicle and I head start heading up to Carlton, Kentucky on US 36.
1:26.7	And I got about three miles up the road, and you got to understand something.
1:32.2	Back in 87, there was no traffic on the roads here in this county where I'm at.
1:39.2	Everything closed up at 5 o'clock, you know.
1:45.1	And I'm driving up the road, and I was trying to figure out why was this gentleman
1:51.5	in a fur coat, and it's like 85 degrees right now, you know.
1:59.0	So when I get up there close, I stopped. I didn't stop. I just drove slow, looked through the passenger window, and I seen this thing. I didn't understand what I was seeing. It wasn't a bear. It was more like a man that was just covered in hair.
2:19.6	So I turned around and went up the road and actually turned around and came back,
2:25.4	pulled over on the side of the road and got out of the car and actually followed it down into the field.
